Drop the Scissors and Step Away from the Box

Okay, admit it.  You miss seeing the selfies, especially the ones helped by filters to look absolutely perfect!  No one is showing their bushy hair, eyebrows, not-supposed-to-be-there mustache, and skunk-like or dark roots, usually so well cared for by our stylists. No one should have any doubts about their classification, they are ESSENTIAL.  If you don’t believe it, just ask the loved ones living with those of us struggling to accept reality, when our stylists have helped us feel polished and confident. Let’s talk about a few things.   First, I want to say those of you experiencing hair care after 1990 are truly blessed.  Don’t get me wrong we all had our hair day and there…

    2020 Vision

So we’re 7 days into the New Year!  Many resolutions were made and many have already fallen by the wayside.   I’ve heard many claiming 2020 was going to be their year.    If we really think about it, every year is our year.    Maybe 2020, resonates with us because we think of perfect vision, or because it is the beginning of a new decade, or simply because the numbers written together just look kind of cool; whatever inspires you take hold and run with it. When your eyes open in the morning, what are some of the first thoughts running through your mind?  Do you take time to…

    Reinvention……It Happens!!

As 2019, speeds to an end, I’ve caught myself reflecting and planning.   Not for New Year’s Resolutions, but just cleaning up some things.   If you’re a regular visitor to the Blog, if you scroll through past posts you will realize I’ve deleted several of the blog posts.    I’ve come to realize we are our own worse judges.   Many of the things I discussed in the posts were simply my inability to realize I’m not in control of anyone’s opinion, but my own.    Coming to that realization is very liberating! Before, I realized I was going to delete blog posts, I cleaned up my Facebook account.…

    Who’s Damned?

Recently there’s been an onslaught on my social media of people sharing the quote “No matter what anyone else thinks of me, God knows my heart and that is all that matters.”   Really? For a moment let’s discuss this from the point of view of someone who does not claim to be a devout Christian, but someone who believes in God and the miracles He is capable of.   As I’ve said before I think as individuals we are entitled to choose our deity and march on.   Christians’  proclaim their faith and are willing to openly share their beliefs.   Hoping to share them with enough conviction to…

    GRAMMAR POLICE, STOP!!

Most of us have explored social media and witnessed many faux pas involving grammar, spelling and punctuation.    Often, I find myself, chuckling at the absurdity of some of it, “blessing their hearts,” for some individuals writing, and blatantly excusing some of it when I know who wrote it. While social media has given so many of us the freedom to express our thoughts openly and without fear, it has also given us the opportunity to express our poor grammar, spelling and punctuation skills.  Our posting hurriedly and auto correct on our electronic devices has also given those reading some chuckles, which we can’t honestly take credit for. Amid all this…

    Problem or Solution?

There have been a lot of stories on the news, Facebook and being passed around by mouth about the heroism and sacrifice resulting from Hurricane Florence.   Some areas of the southeast coast were devastated by the lingering rains the storm brought with her.   Many residents of the east coast and inland communities sat riveted to weather forecasts as Florence was predicted to come onshore as a category 4 storm and at one point there were predictions that she could have blown in as a category 5.   Needless to say, for a week or more all eyes were glued to satellite images of this massive storm. As Hurricane Florence crept closer…

    WHERE ARE YOU?

For most of us, the answer to the question would be instantaneous.   We would simply tell where we were located physically.   But, have you ever just stopped to contemplate where you are spiritually?   And, if you have, what happened to cause your exploration? I have realized there are a myriad of reasons which can cause us to inspect where we are and if we like our location.   Often a drastic life change such as marriage, divorce, death, birth of a child, career change, or money problems can lead to the onset of finding out where we are spiritually.   Our exploration of where we are in our lives may be a…

    MAN VS. WOLF

Now that I have your attention; let me assure you that we are not going to talk about man’s battle with any species of wildlife.  Too many opinions, neither particularly right or particularly wrong. Have you ever looked into the full moon?   Hoping to find the mysterious man residing there; you remember the man I’m speaking of.   He is the one of folklore, childhood tales, love songs and I suppose many other stories I don’t recall.  I’ve never seen him, I can almost see him if I look very hard, but in my mind’s eye, I always see a wolf waiting for release in the full moon. During the last full…

TO OPEN OR NOT TO OPEN?

“When a man opens a car door for his wife, it’s either a new car or a new wife.”  Prince Phillip Wow!   Quite a comment for the once thought gentlemanly thing to do.   If we look around and talk to enough people you will get an onslaught of different and mixed opinions when it comes to the fairly easy act of opening a door.   Is it right or wrong to open a door for a woman?   Who knows what the correct answer is, and I have learned the question may be a strictly personal one. While exploring this topic I learned that the art of a gentleman holding a door open…

    WHERE DOES LOVE LIVE?

“If we are bold, love strikes away the chains of fear from our souls.” Maya Angelou Where does love live and are we brave enough to allow it to live within us? Most often my writing is inspired by unexpected moments; they would be nondescript to many.   The moments are usually innocent and simple. Like so many of my sisters, my heart has been broken and has mended.   The problem is with each repair it has become a little harder and doesn’t open as easily as it once did.  With these methods we tend to protect ourselves; but are we missing life changing moments? My inspiration found me unexpectedly again…
